30th GERAS Conference

The French national research association for English for Specific Purposes (GERAS) will hold its 30th annual Conference on the subject of "From non-specialised to specialised: routes towards specialised English" at the University of Rennes 1. The discussion begun in 2008 concerning the unity and diversity of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) will be pursued; the distinctive approach in 2009 will examine one of the fields of discipline's defining phenomena: the progression from non-specialised English to specialisation. Suggestions for contributions may approach this question from various angles along all four research strands: Applied Linguistics and Discourse Analysis, Culture, Didactics and Technology.

Workshop: A Meeting of Directors of Language Centres at Universities

The Viadrina University Foreign Language Centre organises a workshop in collaboration with CercleS for directors of language centres at universities. The meeting is intended to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on the following issues: Staff: recruitment, development, professionalism; budget: outsourcing, fundraising; Curriculum development in times of Bologna; making management work: communication inside and outside the institution; European cooperation: staff exchange, projects. 29th GERAS Conference

The French national research association for English for Specific Purposes (GERAS) was holding its 29th annual Conference on the subject of “Research in ESP: Distance and Proximity” at the University of Orléans. Examined were the phenomena of distance and proximity from various angles along all four research strands: Applied Linguistics and Discourse Analysis, Culture, Didactics and Technology.

CercleS/AICLU Seminar

In collaboration with CercleS, AICLU organised a seminar on Italian as second and foreign language on the subject of Insegnamento dell'italiano L2/LS all'Università: nuove sfide e opportunità.
The seminar held at the University of Padua dealt with many interesting subjects such as the application of different technologies in teaching Italian, intercultural approaches and language testing. For further information please click here.

International CercleS/CASALC Workshop

Under the auspices of CASALC and CercleS, the Mendel University of Agiculture and Forestry in Brno, Czech Republic organised an international Introductory workshop for to-be item writers. The workshop was intended to familiarise language teachers with the basics of language testing and to provide opputunities to exchange their experiences.
