CercleS Seminar:
Ten years of the CEFR and the ELP. The central role of the
learner in using the CEFR and the ELP.
24-26 November 2011 in Groningen, the Netherlands.

Ten years ago, in 2001, the European Year of Languages was
celebrated with much success in 45 different countries. In
that memorable year, the Common European Framework of
Reference for Languages (CEFR) was launched, together with
its complement the European Language Portfolio (ELP).
This means that 2011 is a historically and internationally
significant year for the European language learning and
teaching community: a year in which we can look back on the
use and the impact of the CEFR and the ELP. It is also a
time when we can look forward to new challenges and
opportunities.
We are therefore extremely proud to invite you to this
seminar organized to celebrate the triple anniversary of the
European Year of Languages, the CEFR and the ELP.
Find out more about the seminar in the attached documents.
Additional information will be published in May on the

32nd GERAS Conference
17-19 March 2011, Dijon,
France
The French national
research association for English for Specific Purposes (GERAS)
will hold its 32nd annual Conference on the following topic
"Hegemony
and singularities: orchestrating languages for
specific purposes"
at the University of Bourgogne, Dijon (France).
The theme of the 32nd GERAS
Conference lies
within the scope of research conducted by our scientific
community under the umbrella theme of “multiplicity and
unity” in languages for specific purposes. One of the major
issues in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) remains its
theoretical foundations and its relation with regard to the
other branches of Anglistics. Is it now time to redefine the
major and minor modes within each domain? Is it possible,
desirable or even feasible to harmonize the different fields
of research? The theme chosen may be understood not only as
an investigation of the interface between ESP and the other
branches of Anglistics, but also as the analysis of the
domain of Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP). Paper
proposals are invited to explore the following lines of
enquiry in accordance with the research principles
underlying GERAS: linguistics and discursive, cultural,
didactic and technological dimensions.
Keynote speakers :
Dr Alain Cazade (Professor, Dauphine University Paris –
CICLAS)
Dr Anna Mauranen (Professor, University of Helsinki,
Finland)
Dr Philip SHAW (Professor, Stockholm University, Sweden)
The first GERAS Doctoral Meetings and Book Fair will
be held during the Conference
